The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has opened applications for temporary employment opportunities across Kenya. These positions are aimed at supporting the November 2025 by-elections and the ongoing voter registration exercise.

The IEBC has confirmed the hiring of voter registration clerks for 57 Huduma Centres nationwide and poll officials to oversee the upcoming by-elections. Selected candidates will be paid daily wages ranging from Ksh1,000 to Ksh2,500, depending on the role. The by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025 will fill several key seats across Kenya, including Senate, National Assembly, and County Assembly positions.


By-Elections to Fill Key Seats

The November 2025 by-elections will fill seats in the Senate and National Assembly, as well as in various County Assembly wards. The positions up for election include:

  • Senate seat in Baringo County
  • National Assembly seats in:
    • Banissa
    • Kasipul
    • Magarini
    • Malava
    • Mbeere North
    • Ugunja
  • Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in 17 wards across various counties including Tana River, Garissa, Machakos, Turkana, Samburu, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Narok, Kajiado, Kakamega, Nyamira, Nairobi, and Bungoma.

Roles Available and Remuneration

IEBC is looking to fill multiple roles with competitive daily pay. The positions available include:

1. Voter Registration Clerk

  • Duties: Operate biometric registration kits, verify applicant eligibility, assist with forms, and ensure the security of materials.
  • Daily Pay: Ksh1,500 for those stationed at Huduma Centres.

2. Presiding Officer (PO)

  • Duties: Manage the entire voting process, ensure compliance with electoral laws, and oversee other polling staff.
  • Daily Pay: Ksh2,000.

3. Deputy Presiding Officer (DPO)

  • Duties: Assist the Presiding Officer and ensure smooth operations at the polling station.
  • Daily Pay: Ksh1,800.

4. Ward-Based Voter Educator

  • Duties: Educate voters in their assigned wards, focusing on voter registration and rights.
  • Daily Pay: Ksh1,500 to Ksh2,000, depending on the level of responsibility (County or Constituency).

5. Polling/Counting Clerk

  • Duties: Assist in polling and counting ballots during elections.
  • Daily Pay: Ksh1,000.

6. ICT Clerk

  • Duties: Provide ICT support, test and configure registration kits, and handle technical issues.
  • Daily Pay: Ksh1,500.

7. Support Electoral Trainer (SET)

  • Duties: Assist in training electoral officials such as POs, DPOs, and clerks.
  • Daily Pay: Ksh2,000.

How to Apply

Interested candidates are required to apply online via the official IEBC Job Portal. The deadline for submissions is October 16, 2025. Only online applications will be considered, and canvassing will lead to disqualification.

The IEBC also emphasized that successful candidates must be ready to work extended hours, as required by the nature of the election process.


Job Requirements

For applicants to be considered for any of the roles, the following qualifications are required:

  • Age: Must be 19 years or older.
  • Education: Minimum KCSE C- or equivalent; further qualifications like a diploma in ICT, Statistics, Education, or related fields are an added advantage.
  • Skills: Basic computer literacy and ICT skills are mandatory.
  • Integrity: Demonstrate accountability and confidentiality in all tasks.
  • Other: Ability to provide inclusive service to all voters, including vulnerable groups.

Additional Notes

  • Post-election phase: After the by-elections, the IEBC will continue its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) efforts. The commission aims to register 6.3 million new voters, with a target of 10% of that number for the current registration phase.
  • Election Schedule: The first enhanced CVR phase will begin after the November by-elections, with the second phase scheduled for the next financial year.
