KAMPALA — Police in Kampala have recovered all six laptops stolen from the Bank of Uganda offices along Kampala Road. Investigators also arrested four suspects linked to the theft after carrying out several coordinated operations.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police Luke Owoyesigyire, unknown suspects broke into the central bank offices on the night of 3 May 2026 and stole six office laptops.
Initially, police arrested two suspects and recovered two laptops. However, investigators continued tracking down more individuals connected to the crime. Later, intelligence teams arrested two more suspects and recovered the remaining four laptops.

Police are now keeping all six laptops as exhibits while detectives complete the investigation files.
Police Identify the Four Suspects
Authorities identified the suspects as:
- Kule Boaz Micheal
- Kabuya Ramathan alias Rama
- Lubangakene Isaac Izoo
- Oedo Jorem Jude
Investigators believe the suspects participated in different stages of the theft and movement of the stolen devices.
Suspects to Appear in Court
Police confirmed that the suspects will appear before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court on 20 May 2026.
Meanwhile, investigators are finalizing paperwork and gathering additional evidence before prosecution begins.
The suspects are expected to face several charges, including:
- Office breaking
- Theft
- Receiving stolen property
- Retaining stolen property

The incident has raised concerns about security at major public institutions in Uganda. In addition, security experts say criminals increasingly target offices with expensive electronic equipment.
Furthermore, analysts have urged organizations to improve surveillance systems, strengthen night security, and increase access control measures.

Although police recovered all the stolen laptops, investigators are still examining whether additional suspects helped plan or execute the theft.
At the same time, Kampala Metropolitan Police praised the officers and intelligence teams that helped recover the devices quickly.

Authorities say cases involving stolen laptops and office electronics have increased across Kampala in recent months. As a result, police continue warning businesses to strengthen security systems and monitor suspicious activity.
