The ceremony marked the formal beginning of Balimwezo’s 2026–2031 term as political head of Uganda’s capital city. In addition, senior officials from the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), political leaders, and invited guests attended the event.

During the handover ceremony, the Executive Director of KCCA officially declared Balimwezo the new Kampala Lord Mayor. Furthermore, officials handed over the key instruments of office, including the official Lord Mayor’s seal.

Balimwezo Outlines Key Priorities

In his first remarks after taking office, Balimwezo pledged to improve urban infrastructure, strengthen waste management systems, and enhance service delivery across Kampala.

Additionally, he acknowledged the growing challenges facing the capital, including traffic congestion, flooding, and poor drainage systems.

Observers say residents will closely watch how the new administration handles infrastructure development and urban planning in one of East Africa’s fastest-growing cities.

Tight Security at City Hall

Security remained tight throughout the ceremony as police officers and other security personnel monitored the event at City Hall.

However, the ceremony proceeded peacefully as invited guests and city leaders witnessed the formal transfer of authority.

First Official Address Expected Soon

Balimwezo is expected to deliver his first official address to Kampala residents in the coming days. During the address, he will likely outline immediate priorities and strategic plans for the city.

Furthermore, political analysts believe the new administration will face pressure to deliver visible improvements in roads, drainage systems, garbage collection, and public services.

The swearing-in of Ronald Balimwezo marks a major political transition for Kampala and officially begins a new era of leadership at City Hall.

As residents wait for his first official policy direction, many hope the new administration will address the long-standing urban challenges affecting the capital.
