The Retirement Benefits (Deputy President and Designated State Officers) Act outlines the retirement benefits for a Deputy President in Kenya. These benefits also apply to a retired Vice President.
Retirement Benefits Entitlements
A retired Deputy President or retired Vice President is entitled to receive the following benefits for life:
- Monthly Pension
- 80% of the Deputy President’s current monthly salary (KES 589,050.40).
- Lump Sum Payment
- A one-time payment equivalent to one year’s salary for each term served in office.
- Official Vehicles
- Two saloon vehicles with an engine capacity not exceeding 2000 cc, replaceable every four years.
- One four-wheel drive vehicle with an engine capacity not exceeding 3000 cc, replaceable every four years.
- Fuel Allowance
- 15% of the Deputy President’s current salary (KES 110,446.95 per month).
- Medical Cover
- Comprehensive medical and hospital cover for local and overseas treatment for the retired Deputy President and their spouse, provided by a reputable insurance company.
- Additional Benefits (As per the Third Schedule of the Act)
- Two drivers
- One personal assistant
- One accountant
- One secretary
- Two housekeepers
- Two senior support staff
- Two cooks
- Two gardeners
- Two cleaners
- Armed security guards, provided upon request
- Diplomatic passports for the retired Deputy President and their spouse
- Office and office equipment
- Maintenance expenses for government-provided vehicles
- Access to the VIP Lounge II at all airports in Kenya
