The Ham Group of Companies is a prominent Ugandan-based privately owned multinational industrial conglomerate, founded by the visionary entrepreneur Dr. Hamis Kiggundu. Known for its diversified operations across multiple sectors, the conglomerate has earned a reputation as one of the largest and most influential business entities in East Africa. With its official headquarters, The White House, the group employs more than 7,000 people, providing jobs and contributing significantly to Uganda’s economy.

History and Origins

Founded in 2005, the Ham Group of Companies began as a small garment trading business initiated by Dr. Hamis Kiggundu. His entrepreneurial journey started by assisting his father, Hajji Segawa, in a textile shop, where he gained fundamental business knowledge. During school holidays, Hamis leveraged capital from his father to start his own venture, which marked the first step toward building a business empire.

As his initial business grew, Dr. Kiggundu expanded into real estate, buying and selling land and properties. In 2009, he established Ham Enterprises (U) Ltd, focusing on commercial property development. The company’s first major project, Ham Towers in Kampala, was completed in 2010, followed by Ham Shopping Mall within 18 months. These developments boosted rental income and allowed Dr. Kiggundu to secure significant bank financing, laying a strong foundation for further expansion.

By 2021, the Ham Group had diversified its portfolio to include large-scale industrial ventures, particularly in agro-processing. A flagship project was the US$156 million Integrated Agro-Processing Industrial Plant (IAIP) at Akright City, designed to add value to Uganda’s agricultural products and strengthen the country’s industrial base.

Subsidiaries and Business Ventures

The Ham Group is a conglomerate with a wide range of subsidiaries and business interests. As of June 2024, the key companies under the group include:
