AMD has officially confirmed that it will be announcing the next generation of Ryzen 9000X3D chips on November 7, 2024. These new chips are the successors to the highly successful Ryzen 7000X3D lineup, which included popular models such as the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and Ryzen 9 7950X3D.
Key Features and Expectations:
- 3D V-Cache Technology: Like their predecessors, the 9000X3D models will use AMD’s 3D V-cache technology, which adds an extra layer of L3 cache. This has been proven to significantly improve gaming performance.
- AM5 Architecture: These chips will be based on the new AM5 architecture, continuing the advancements seen in the Ryzen 9000 series.
Fast-Tracked Launch:
The launch of the 9000X3D chips comes just three months after the release of the Ryzen 9000 series in August 2024. This is notably quicker than the five-month gap between the release of the 7000X3D and the standard 7000 series. The fast-tracked release may be a response to underwhelming sales of the 9000 series, which saw only minor performance improvements over the previous generation.

Competition with Intel:
AMD’s announcement follows closely behind Intel’s reveal of its next-generation desktop processors. While both companies have not claimed major leaps in performance, Intel was more transparent in its marketing, earning positive reception. In contrast, AMD has faced challenges in public perception following the launch of the standard 9000 series.
Rumored Models:
- The 8-core Ryzen 9800X3D is expected to be the first to launch, reversing the strategy used with the 7800X3D, which arrived a month later than other 7000X3D models.
- The 9900X3D and 9950X3D are also anticipated to include 3D V-cache on both CCDs (Core Complex Dies), whereas previous dual-CCD models had cache only on one.
Performance Expectations:
While productivity performance is expected to remain similar to the non-X3D models, gaming performance will see a notable boost thanks to the 3D V-cache. However, early leaks suggest that the jump in gaming performance over the 7000X3D chips may not be substantial, leaving the question of whether this will be enough to rejuvenate AMD’s standing in the market.
The Ryzen 9000X3D series is poised to be a critical launch for AMD as it aims to regain momentum in the highly competitive processor market. Whether these chips will meet expectations or face the same reception as the standard 9000 series remains to be seen.
