The 0–10,000 Fast Pairs, also known as the 10K Fast Pairs, is a competitive bridge event held during the Fall North American Bridge Championship (NABC) organized by the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). The event is specifically designed for players with fewer than 10,000 masterpoints, offering a fast-paced and challenging matchpoint format.
Introduced in 2015, the competition has quickly become one of the most anticipated contests in the ACBL tournament calendar, emphasizing both speed and strategic precision in bridge play.
Format
The 10K Fast Pairs is structured as a four-session matchpoint pairs event, consisting of:
- Two qualifying sessions, followed by
- Two final sessions
Unlike standard bridge events where tables are allotted 15 minutes per two-board round, the 10K Fast Pairs accelerates the pace — each table has only 11 minutes to complete two boards. This time constraint requires exceptional focus, efficiency, and quick decision-making from participants.
Eligibility for entry is limited to players with fewer than 10,000 masterpoints, making it a prestigious competition for highly experienced, though not yet elite, players.
History
The inaugural 0–10,000 Fast Pairs was held at the 2015 Fall NABC in Denver, Colorado. It was introduced by the ACBL to create a national-level event for mid-tier advanced players seeking to compete in a fast and competitive environment without facing top professional pairs.
Since its inception, the event has maintained a growing reputation for its competitive spirit, sportsmanship, and unique time pressure format that distinguishes it from other NABC events.
The 2020 edition of the event was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic, marking the only interruption in its history.
