The 0–10,000 NABC Pairs, also known as the 10K NABC Pairs, is a major pairs event organized by the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). It takes place annually during the Summer North American Bridge Championship (NABC) and is specifically designed for players who have earned fewer than 10,000 masterpoints.
The competition provides high-level matchpoint play for advanced but non-expert players, offering an opportunity to compete nationally without facing the top open-level professionals. It reflects ACBL’s efforts to create fairer, tiered championship events across different player classes.
History
The inaugural 10K NABC Pairs was held in 2014 at the Summer NABC in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event was established to complement other “10K” events, such as the 10K Fast Pairs and 10K Swiss Teams, which cater to players below the 10,000 masterpoint threshold.
Since its introduction, the 0–10,000 NABC Pairs has become a regular feature of the Summer NABC calendar. It offers strong competition, recognition through national titles, and an environment conducive to learning and performance growth for mid-level players.
Format
The 10K NABC Pairs follows a four-session matchpoint pairs format, including:
- Two qualifying sessions
- Two final sessions
Scores are aggregated across sessions, and the top performers advance to the finals. Each partnership plays a series of boards against multiple opponents, earning matchpoints based on comparative performance on each board.
Participation is strictly limited to players with fewer than 10,000 lifetime masterpoints, ensuring competition remains balanced and accessible to those below the elite ranks of professional bridge.

Significance
The 0–10,000 NABC Pairs represents a key step in the bridge tournament progression. It bridges the gap between open national events and regional-level play, providing meaningful competition for rising players.
By limiting eligibility, the event encourages participation from experienced amateurs and semi-professionals seeking a national title without competing against top-tier experts. It is often considered a proving ground for players aspiring to reach higher levels within the ACBL’s masterpoint system.
