KAMPALA, Uganda — Nyanzi Martin Luther is a Ugandan student entrepreneur and media founder best known for establishing Apex Media Services, a youth-focused media company operating radio and digital platforms alongside media training initiatives.

Despite his young age, Nyanzi has increasingly attracted attention in Uganda’s media and entrepreneurship circles because of his involvement in broadcasting, digital skills training, and youth-led media innovation.

His activities have also appeared in civic and governance discussions connected to youth participation, entrepreneurship, and digital media development in Uganda.

Early Life and Family Background

Nyanzi Martin Luther was born on 5 December 2009 at Nsangi Hospital in Wakiso District, Uganda.

He is the first-born child in a family of three siblings and was raised by businessman Ssekaayi Simon.

According to individuals familiar with his background, his parents separated in 2025, a development that reportedly influenced his early independence and self-reliance.

Speaking previously about family challenges, Nyanzi stated:

“The problem I have faced and which is long lasting is not having peace with the dad; we can never sit and agree ever, we have disputes.”

Observers close to his journey say those experiences contributed to his determination to focus on entrepreneurship and personal development at an early age.

Education Background

Nyanzi began his education at St. Anne Infant School before later studying at Upendo Christian School and MK International School.

He is currently pursuing his O-Level education at Kisozi High School.

In 2023, he completed his Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) with 13 aggregates.

School-related accounts describe him as academically consistent while simultaneously participating in media-related projects outside the classroom.

Did You Know? Uganda has seen a growing number of teenagers entering entrepreneurship through digital platforms, media projects, and online businesses.

Youth involvement in media and digital entrepreneurship continues increasing in Uganda

How His Media Journey Started

Nyanzi’s involvement in media reportedly started during his teenage years when he performed as a deejay under the stage name “Deejay Blockboy.”

As his interest in broadcasting grew, he later developed a youth radio concept known as Block FM.

The project eventually evolved into Apex Media Services in 2025.

Today, the company operates:

  • Block FM 103.2
  • Digital media platforms
  • Youth-focused training programs
  • Media production initiatives

Supporters of the project describe it as part of a new generation of youth-led media innovation emerging across Uganda.

Apex Digital Skills Program

In addition to broadcasting, Apex Media Services also runs Apex Digital Skills, a program focused on introducing young people to media production and basic digital entrepreneurship.

The initiative aims to equip participants with practical skills connected to:

  • Content creation
  • Digital communication
  • Media production
  • Online entrepreneurship
  • Broadcasting basics

According to observers, programs of this nature are becoming increasingly important as Uganda’s youth population continues expanding within the digital economy.

Hidden Truth: Uganda’s growing digital media sector is creating new opportunities for young entrepreneurs outside traditional employment systems.

Block FM later evolved into the broader Apex Media Services project

Investor Reactions and Public Attention

Nyanzi’s work has attracted both support and skepticism from sections of the public.

Investor Isaac Ssegawa, who later became involved in the project, admitted he initially questioned whether such a venture could succeed under teenage leadership.

“When I joined Apex Media Services, I came as an investor interested in the work this boy was doing. I kept wondering how a 15-year-old could establish a station,” Ssegawa said.

Community reactions have remained mixed.

While some observers have questioned the project’s sustainability and operational capacity, others see the initiative as evidence of growing youth innovation within Uganda’s media sector.

Reported Audience Reach

Reported estimates from Listen Measures suggest that Block FM reaches approximately 400,000 listeners daily.

However, independently verified audience audit figures have not yet been publicly released.

Nevertheless, the station’s visibility on digital platforms and local media discussions has contributed to growing public awareness of the project.

Role in Youth and Civic Discussions

Beyond media entrepreneurship, Nyanzi’s activities have also appeared in conversations surrounding youth participation in governance, digital engagement, and civic development.

His initiatives have occasionally been referenced in broader discussions about how young Ugandans are increasingly using digital platforms to participate in entrepreneurship, public dialogue, and media innovation.

Analysts note that this reflects a wider regional trend where young entrepreneurs are using technology and social media to create alternative opportunities and influence public conversations.

Challenges Facing Young Entrepreneurs

Despite increasing visibility, young entrepreneurs in Uganda often face major challenges, including:

  • Limited funding access
  • Operational costs
  • Regulatory requirements
  • Public skepticism
  • Balancing education and business responsibilities

Consequently, maintaining sustainable growth remains one of the biggest tests for youth-led startups in the country.

Outlook

Nyanzi Martin Luther continues focusing on media development, youth digital skills training, and entrepreneurship initiatives while pursuing his education.

Supporters believe his work reflects the growing ambition of Uganda’s younger generation within media and technology sectors.

Meanwhile, observers say the long-term success of Apex Media Services will depend on sustainability, institutional growth, and continued audience engagement.

Nyanzi Martin Luther has emerged as one of Uganda’s visible young student entrepreneurs through his involvement in media broadcasting and digital skills initiatives.

From his beginnings as “Deejay Blockboy” to founding Apex Media Services and Block FM, his journey reflects broader changes in youth entrepreneurship and digital innovation across Uganda.

As Uganda’s media and technology sectors continue evolving, his story remains part of a growing trend of young entrepreneurs entering industries traditionally dominated by older and more established players.
