  • Clean Drinking Water: Always ensure fresh water is available for the cattle. Supplementing with nutritional feeds and ensuring proper feeding routines are essential for maintaining healthy cattle.

Vaccination:

Beef cattle must be vaccinated to protect against diseases, with foot and mouth disease being particularly fatal. Cattle should also be dipped to control pests like ticks, fleas, tsetse flies, and mites.

Beef Market in Kenya:

The demand for beef in Kenya is very high, making it the most consumed meat in the country. Key markets for beef include:

  • Local butcheries: Where beef is sold fresh to consumers.
  • Institutional markets: With connections and proper marketing strategies, farmers can sell beef to schools, hotels, and restaurants.
  • Direct Sales: You can directly sell live cattle to butchers or slaughter them and sell meat based on weight.

Before beef can be sold, it must be inspected by a veterinary officer to ensure it is fit for consumption.

With the right strategies, beef farming can be a highly rewarding enterprise, contributing significantly to the farmer’s income.
