NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 30 – A woman arrested in connection with the murder of Willis Ayieko, a Human Resources Manager at Wells Fargo, has succumbed to injuries sustained during a police shootout. The woman, found in possession of Ayieko’s firearm, was intercepted by police while traveling with her boyfriend on Wednesday. Following a gun battle, she was rushed to a hospital in Yala, Siaya County, where she later died from her injuries. Her boyfriend managed to flee the scene.
Ayieko’s body was discovered in Siaya on October 18 after he was reported missing. An autopsy, conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor, revealed that Ayieko died from severe head trauma, resulting in brain hemorrhaging. Additionally, bruises were found on his wrists, indicating he may have been restrained, and tissue was missing from his mouth, ear, and cheek. Dr. Oduor suggested that these injuries likely resulted from animal predation, with a dead crab found on Ayieko’s clothing indicating possible exposure to water animals.
The investigation into Ayieko’s death has made progress, with detectives arresting a prime suspect, Victor Ouma Okoth, in Dandora, Nairobi. CCTV footage captured Okoth and another man abandoning Ayieko’s vehicle at a fuel station in Sabatia before fleeing on a motorbike. Forensic evidence has linked Okoth to the crime scene, leading to his arrest by a team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ (DCI) Homicide, CRIB, and Operations units.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are actively searching for the woman’s boyfriend and any additional suspects connected to Ayieko’s tragic death.
