Kenya goonism has come under international scrutiny after DW News featured the growing wave of organized groups disrupting rallies, convoys, and public gatherings ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The spotlight follows two recent incidents that have reignited concern over political intolerance. On Sunday, August 16, a convoy linked to the Linda Mwananchi movement touring Homa Bay County was attacked, with roadblocks and hostile crowds disrupting the visit and reports of fatalities and torched vehicles. Days earlier, on Friday, August 14, presidential hopeful Fred Matiang’i was heckled in Bomet Town, forcing him to cut his address short after a section of the crowd turned hostile.
Both incidents have added to a string of similar disruptions in recent months, including attacks on Rigathi Gachagua’s convoy, fueling debate over who is sponsoring the unrest and calls for security agencies to act before tensions escalate further.
