Kenya Highlands Sacco Membership Eligibility & Requirements

Kenya Highlands Sacco, formerly known as Kericho Tea Growers Sacco, was established on 8th August 1991 under the Ministry of Co-operative Development and Marketing. This deposit-taking Sacco operates both FOSA and BOSA activities and is committed to improving the quality of life for its members by providing top-tier financial products and services. With an asset base of Kshs 3.95 billion and a membership exceeding 120,000, it stands as one of Kenya’s prominent Saccos.


Membership Eligibility

Membership is open to individuals from diverse backgrounds, including:

  • Tea farmers.
  • Dairy farmers.
  • Sugarcane farmers.
  • Coffee farmers.
  • Micro groups.
  • Employees of public and private companies.
  • Sacco employees and their family members.

Membership Requirements

To join Kenya Highlands Sacco, applicants must:

  1. Provide Identification:
    • A copy of the National ID.
  2. Pay Registration Fee:
    • Kshs 150.
  3. Be of Good Character:
    • Applicants must be of sound mind and not engaged in activities such as money lending or cash daily collection that conflict with the Sacco’s objectives.
  4. Savings Commitment:
    • Show willingness to participate in a regular savings program.

Rights of Members

Members of Kenya Highlands Sacco are entitled to:

  1. Voting Rights:
    • Elect or be elected into the Sacco’s leadership organs.
  2. Decision-Making Participation:
    • Attend zonal meetings and contribute to decision-making.
  3. Service Access:
    • Use Sacco services as per approved policies and procedures.
  4. Project Submission:
    • Propose projects or initiatives aimed at enhancing financial services.
  5. Information Access:
    • Access legitimate information regarding the Sacco.
  6. Account Statements:
    • Receive an annual statement of accounts detailing individual credit and debit transactions. Additional statements may incur a fee.
  7. Other Rights:
    • As stipulated by relevant laws and Sacco by-laws.
