Harambee Sacco Membership Eligibility & Requirements

Harambee Sacco, established in 1970, is one of Kenya’s largest deposit-taking Saccos with an asset base of Kshs 37.01 billion. Initially formed by employees of the Office of the President, it has since grown to accommodate members from diverse backgrounds, promoting savings and offering loans for personal and financial growth.

Membership Eligibility

Kenyan citizens fitting the following categories are eligible to join:

1. Members under Check-Off Arrangement:

Employees working for the government or reputable institutions.
Employees of Harambee Sacco and its subsidiaries.

2. Members under Non-Check-Off Arrangement:

Wafanisi: Retired members who wish to continue their membership.
Individuals in formal employment with regular income.
Diaspora members with regular legal income.
Spouses and children of existing members (employed or in business with regular income).

3. Groups, CBOs, and NGOs:

Groups, community-based organizations (CBOs), and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) admitted per the Sacco by-laws.

4. Corporates:

Registered corporate entities.

5. Sole Proprietorships:

Registered businesses owned by individuals.

6. Partnerships:

Registered business entities owned by multiple individuals, governed by a partnership deed.

7. Companies:

Companies limited by shares or by guarantee.

Membership Requirements

Application Form:
- Fill the membership application form (available on the Sacco’s website or at FOSA branches).
Documents to Attach:
- Copies of National ID.
- Passport photo.
- KRA PIN certificate.
Membership Fee:
- Pay Kshs 1,000 as a membership fee.
Additional Contributions:
- Participate in the Sink Fund or Loan Protection Program by paying Kshs 300 per month.
- Contribute a prescribed share capital of Kshs 30,000 (payable in installments).
By-Laws:
- A copy of the Sacco’s by-laws can be requested upon payment of the prescribed fees.
- Members will receive a digital share certificate upon meeting the share requirements.
