Unison Sacco, formerly known as Laikipia Teachers Sacco, was established in 1977 and rebranded in 2014. The Sacco is regulated as a deposit-taking Sacco by the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) under the Sacco Societies Act 2008. It has grown to serve more than 30,000 members and boasts an asset base of Kshs 6.79 billion.
Membership Eligibility
Unison Sacco draws its members from the following groups:
- Teachers Service Commission (TSC) employees.
- Civil servants.
- Private schools/institutions.
- Corporates.
- Micro-credit groups.
- Individual business entrepreneurs capable of making regular contributions.
Membership Requirements
To qualify for membership, an applicant must meet the following criteria:
- General Requirements
- Must be within the field of membership as provided in the Sacco’s by-laws.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Should not be a member of another salary-based Sacco in Kenya.
- Should not be directly involved in money lending or any activities detrimental to the Sacco’s objectives.
- Must be of good character.
- Should be introduced by an existing member.
- Must have a regular income from employment, business, or trade.
- Documentary and Financial Requirements
- Entrance fee of Kshs 1,000.
- Minimum shares as stipulated by the Sacco’s policy.
- Completed membership application form.
- Completed member’s personal information card and appointment of a nominee.
- Attach copies of:
- National ID or valid passport.
- KRA PIN certificate.
- Understanding Responsibilities
- Understand and accept the objectives of the society and the obligations of membership as per the Sacco’s by-laws.
Rights of Members
As a member of Unison Sacco, you are entitled to:
- Financial Information
- Access a statement of account containing individual credit and debit transactions upon request.
- Participation in Elections
- Attend and participate in elections within the electoral zone.
- Elect or be elected as an officer of the society unless restricted by law or by-laws.
- Input and Suggestions
- Submit projects or initiatives for service improvement.
- Nominee Appointment
- Appoint a nominee for benefits allocation.
- Profit Sharing
- Share in the Sacco’s surpluses.
