Kimisitu Sacco Membership Eligibility & Requirements

Kimisitu Sacco, established in March 1985, is one of Kenya’s largest deposit-taking Saccos with an asset base of Kshs 9.54 billion. Initially formed by ICRAF staff, the Sacco’s mission is to provide members with savings opportunities and access to affordable loans for provident and productive purposes.


Membership Eligibility

Membership is open to:

  1. Employees of:
    • International organisations.
    • Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
    • Embassies and high commissions.
    • Reputable organisations.
  2. Family Members:
    • Spouses and children of members.
  3. Individuals:
    • Those in business.
  4. Groups:
    • Registered and unregistered chamas.
  5. Corporates:
    • Registered businesses and organisations.

Membership Requirements

1. Individual Members

  • Complete the online registration form (available on the Sacco’s website).
  • Provide:
    • Copy of National ID.
    • Passport size photo.
  • Payment:
    • Membership entrance fee: Kshs 1,000 or 1,022 (via Mpesa).
    • Minimum monthly contribution: Kshs 2,000.
    • Initial share capital: Kshs 5,000.

2. Corporate Members

  • Submit:
    • Completed corporate membership application form.
    • Certificate of incorporation.
    • IDs, KRA PIN certificates, and passport size photos of signatories.
    • Company profile.
  • Payment:
    • Membership entrance fee: Kshs 2,000 or 2,022 (via Mpesa).
    • Minimum monthly contribution: Kshs 10,000.
    • Initial share capital: Kshs 10,000.
  • Additional requirement:
    • Resolution of directors to join Kimisitu Sacco.

3. Chama Members

(a) Registered Groups

  • Self-Help Groups, Women Groups, or Youth Groups must provide:
    • Completed chama membership application form.
    • Certificate of registration.
    • IDs and passport size photos of signatories.
    • Group constitution.
    • Letter of introduction from the Ministry of Social Services.
    • Resolution by the group members to join the Sacco.
  • Payment:
    • Membership entrance fee: Kshs 2,000 or 2,022 (via Mpesa).
    • Minimum monthly contribution: Kshs 10,000.
    • Initial share capital: Kshs 10,000.

(b) Investment Groups Registered as Companies

  • Submit:
    • Completed chama membership application form.
    • Certificate of incorporation.
    • Original memorandum and articles of association.
    • Directors’ IDs, passport size photos, and KRA PIN certificates.
    • Resolution to join Kimisitu Sacco.
  • Payment:
    • Membership entrance fee: Kshs 2,000 or 2,022 (via Mpesa).
    • Minimum monthly contribution: Kshs 10,000.
    • Initial share capital: Kshs 10,000.
