Afya Sacco Membership Eligibility & Requirements

Afya Sacco, established on 8th May 1971, is a democratic, member-driven, self-help financial institution. With an asset base exceeding 20.94 billion and a membership of over 38,000, Afya Sacco is the 5th largest Sacco in Kenya.


Membership Eligibility

The following groups are eligible to join Afya Sacco:

  1. Employees of the Ministry of Health, other government ministries, and parastatals.
  2. Employees of Afya Co-operative Saving and Credit Society and its subsidiaries.
  3. Staff of Nurses and Midwives Council of Kenya.
  4. Employees of quasi-government institutions under the Ministry of Health, such as:
    • KEMRI
    • KETRI
    • Kenyatta National Hospital
    • Kenya Medical Training College
  5. Workers of health-related organisations registered in Kenya.
  6. Past members who resigned but own shares in Afya Investments Co-operative Society Limited.
  7. Retired members who continue contributing a minimum of Kshs 3,000 monthly.

Membership Requirements

To become a member:

  1. Application Form
    Complete the prescribed application for membership form.
  2. Documentation
    Attach the following documents:
    • Photostat copy of the latest payslip.
    • Two passport-size photographs.
    • Photostat copy of your National ID.
  3. For Parastatal and Health-Related Employees
    Obtain a commitment letter from your employer stating their willingness to deduct and remit shares to the society on your behalf.
  4. Payments
    • Kshs 500 monthly shares contribution until you reach a total of Kshs 20,000.
    • Kshs 5,000 monthly deposits.
    • Kshs 1,000 membership fee (one-off).
    • Kshs 300 Afya Benevolent Fund fee.
  5. Submission
    Submit completed membership forms to the nearest branch for recommendation and onward transmission to the headquarters.
  6. Withdrawal
    Members can withdraw from the Sacco due to death, resignation, or retirement.
