Qona Sacco Membership Requirements

This article outlines the membership requirements for Qona Sacco, a Savings & Credit Co-operative Society established in 2001 to offer members access to loans aimed at improving their economic and social well-being.

The Sacco’s primary goal is to empower its members by providing a wide range of products and services. Over the years, it has grown significantly, boasting an asset base of 8 billion.


Qona Sacco Membership

Membership is available to the following groups:

  • Employees of Qona Ltd.
  • Spouses of members and children aged 18 years and above.
  • Individuals referred by Sacco members.
  • Employees of other corporates under the Sacco’s membership policy. Currently, the Sacco serves members from over 100 different corporations.

Qona Sacco Membership Requirements

Alpha Membership

Individual Alpha members qualify for loan facilities after consistently saving for six months in the Back Office Services (BOSA) section.

Omega Membership

Group/Omega members qualify for loan facilities after six months of using the Front Office Services Activity (FOSA) section.


Requirements: Individual (Alpha Membership)

  • Membership fee: Kshs 1,000, deducted from the initial savings or paid at registration.
  • Minimum monthly deposit: Kshs 3,000.
  • Minimum share capital: 400 shares at Kshs 100 each, totaling Kshs 40,000, payable within 12 months (approximately Kshs 3,334 per month).
  • Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) report is required to confirm eligibility.
  • Loan qualification: Long-term loans after 6 months of consistent savings; short-term loans after 3 months.
  • Monthly contributions can be made via standing orders, employer payroll deductions, cheques, over-the-counter deposits, or Mpesa.

Requirements: Chama/Corporate/SME/Investment Groups (Omega Membership)

(a) Corporate Membership

  • Membership fee: Kshs 2,000.
  • FOSA monthly minimum deposit: Kshs 5,000.
  • Minimum account balance: Kshs 5,000.
  • Minimum shareholding: Kshs 20,000.
  • Loan eligibility: Up to Kshs 3 million for registered companies.

(b) Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs)

  • Membership fee: Kshs 2,000.
  • FOSA monthly minimum deposit: Kshs 5,000.
  • Minimum account balance: Kshs 5,000.
  • Minimum shareholding: Kshs 1,000.
  • Loan eligibility: Up to Kshs 3 million for registered SMEs.

(c) Chamas

  • Membership fee: Kshs 2,000.
  • FOSA monthly minimum deposit: Kshs 5,000.
  • Required to raise 20% of the deposit when requesting a loan.
