Requirements To Open A National Bank Account In Kenya

National Bank offers a range of accounts to cater to personal, business, corporate, and diaspora needs. Below are the requirements and fees for different account categories.


1. Personal Accounts

(a) Current Accounts

  • Personal Current Account
    • Opening Balance: Kshs 1,000
    • Requirements:
      • Original and copy of ID/Passport
      • 1 passport photo (taken at the branch)
      • KRA PIN certificate
      • Proof of address/source of funds
  • Premium Account
    • Opening Balance: Kshs 5,000
    • Requirements: Same as above
  • Foreign Currency Current Account
    • Opening Balance: USD 100, EUR 100, GBP 100
    • Requirements: Same as above

(b) Savings Accounts

  • Ahadi Savings Account
    • Opening Balance: Kshs 1,000
    • Requirements: Same as above
  • Vision Savings Account (Children’s Account)
    • Opening Balance: Kshs 500
    • Requirements:
      • Guardian’s ID/Passport
      • Birth certificate/notification of birth
      • KRA PIN (Guardian/Parent)
      • Proof of address/source of funds

(c) Transactional Accounts

  • Student Account
    • Opening Balance: Kshs 500
    • Requirements:
      • Student ID
      • Letter from the learning institution
      • Proof of address/source of funds
  • Nat625 Mobile Account
    • Requirements:
      • Be 18 years and above
      • Have a functioning smartphone

2. Business Accounts

(a) Micro Banking Accounts

  • Jenga Biashara Account
    • Opening Balance: Kshs 1,000
    • Requirements:
      • Copy of ID and PIN
      • Business registration certificate (if registered)

(b) SME Accounts

  • SME Current Account
    • Opening Balance: Kshs 5,000
    • Requirements:
      • Certificate of registration/incorporation
      • VAT certificate
      • Valid trading license
      • Partnership deed or board resolution (if applicable)

3. Corporate Accounts

  • Corporate Current Account
    • Requirements:
      • Application form
      • Board of directors’ resolution
      • Management and audited accounts

4. National Amanah Accounts

  • Amanah Personal Current Account
    • Ledger Fees: Kshs 400
    • Requirements: Same as personal current account
  • Amanah Vision Account (Children’s Savings)
    • Operating Balance: Kshs 500
    • Requirements:
      • Guardian’s ID and KRA PIN
      • Child’s birth certificate/notification

5. Diaspora Accounts

(a) Savings Accounts

  • Ahadi Account
    • Requirements:
      • Kenyan ID/Passport
      • Proof of address and photo
  • Vision Account
    • Requirements:
      • Parent/Guardian ID
      • Birth certificate of the child

(b) Transactional Accounts

  • Wekeza Account
    • Opening Balance: Kshs 1,000
    • Requirements: Same as diaspora savings account
