During a meeting with European Union leaders in Brussels, HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani called for immediate ceasefires in Israel’s ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon. He emphasized the necessity of establishing an independent Palestinian state, coexisting alongside Israel, based on the 1967 borders and international legitimacy.
At the EU-GCC summit, the Amir highlighted the urgent need to stop the violence and find a solution to the Palestinian cause. Referring to the destructive nature of the wars, he said, “We need a settlement for these conflicts. A ceasefire would be a first step before serious negotiations for a definite solution.”
The 27-nation EU aims to strengthen cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to address regional conflicts, including those in the Middle East and Ukraine. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen echoed the call for a ceasefire, warning against the dangerous escalation of violence in the Middle East.

This summit takes place amidst Israel’s assault on Gaza, which has led to thousands of casualties and widespread displacement, as well as escalating cross-border fighting with Hezbollah in Lebanon. The presence of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the summit has further raised hopes for advancing the two-state solution, a proposal initially launched by Saudi Arabia in 2002. Talks also include discussions on trade, investment, and visa liberalization.
