LONDON — Mubadala-backed Corient has struck one of the largest wealth management deals of the year, acquiring Stonehage Fleming and Stanhope in a move that instantly adds $214 billion in assets to its advisory platform. The Miami-based firm confirmed the transactions Tuesday, underscoring its ambition to become a dominant player in the global wealth management industry.
The acquisitions give Corient a foothold in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, regions that remain central to the growth of private wealth and cross-border family office services. Both deals are structured as equity transactions and are expected to close in the first half of 2026. Once completed, Stonehage Fleming and Stanhope will be fully rebranded under the Corient name, aligning with the firm’s private partnership model, where more than 260 partners hold co-ownership.
Strategic Expansion in Wealth Management
Corient’s entry into Europe comes at a time when global wealth advisors are consolidating to secure scale, technology, and cross-border expertise. Backed by Mubadala Capital, the investment arm of Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund, Corient recently took CI Financial’s US wealth operations private. This deal marks the firm’s next stage of growth, as it extends its reach beyond North America.
Stonehage Fleming, founded nearly half a century ago, is recognized as one of the world’s leading multi-family offices, providing wealth planning, investments, and succession management for some of the wealthiest families globally. Stanhope Capital, established in 2004, is among Europe’s largest independent wealth managers, specializing in advisory services, private investments, and merchant banking.
As part of the transaction, Caledonia Investments confirmed it has sold its minority stake in Stonehage Fleming to Corient for approximately $385 million (£288 million). The sale is also expected to close in the first half of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
Leadership Transition and Governance
To ensure continuity, senior executives from both acquired firms will assume prominent roles in Corient’s international business.
- Giuseppe Ciucci (Stonehage Fleming) will join as partner and chairman of Corient International.
- Daniel Pinto (Stanhope Capital) will become partner and CEO of Corient International.
- Both executives will also sit on Corient’s global board, bringing decades of European wealth management experience to the firm’s leadership team.
Other senior figures, including Stuart Parkinson (Stonehage Fleming) and Keith Bloomfield (FFT Wealth Management), will hold key positions and share in ownership stakes, strengthening Corient’s integrated partnership culture.
Aiming to Dominate the Global Advisory Market
Chief Executive Kurt MacAlpine described the acquisitions as transformative, stating the combined platform would become “the world’s largest independent advisory firm dedicated to meeting the full spectrum of needs for ultra- and high-net-worth clients.”
Advisory firms Jefferies and Goldman Sachs acted for Corient, while Spencer House Partners advised Stonehage Fleming and Rothschild & Co represented Stanhope.
By consolidating three of the most recognized names in global wealth management, Mubadala-backed Corient is positioning itself as a powerhouse in an industry where scale, brand trust, and international reach increasingly define competitiveness.
