The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) is responsible for determining and reviewing the salary and benefits of the Deputy President in Kenya. Additional Benefits for the Deputy President
1. Official Transport
- The Deputy President is provided with official transport in accordance with the government’s transport policy.
2. Medical Cover
The Deputy President, one spouse, and up to four children under 25 years receive the following annual medical benefits:
- Inpatient Cover: KES 10 million
- Outpatient Cover: KES 300,000
- Maternity Cover: KES 150,000
- Dental Cover: KES 75,000
- Optical Cover: KES 75,000
3. Retirement Benefits
- The Retirement Benefits for Deputy President and Designated State Officers Act, 2015 applies to the Deputy President.
4. Insurance Coverage
- Group Life Insurance: Coverage equivalent to three times the annual pensionable salary.
- Group Personal Accident Cover: Coverage equal to three times the annual pensionable salary.
5. Travel Allowances
- The Deputy President receives daily subsistence allowances for both local and foreign travel, as determined periodically by SRC.
6. Airtime Allowance
- The Deputy President is allocated KES 20,000 per month for official communication.
7. Official Residence
- The State provides an official residence for the Deputy President, along with household amenities and attendants.
- This benefit is not convertible to cash.
8. Security
- Security is provided as per recommendations by the Inspector-General of Police and cannot be monetized.
9. Annual Leave Allowance
- The Deputy President receives an annual leave allowance of KES 50,000.
- Leave days cannot be converted into cash.
